Ken Schomburg
I graduated from the University of Wisconsin - STOUT with a B.S. in Applied Technology with a concentration in Manufacturing Systems. While at STOUT, I spent one summer as an engineering assistant at Plastocon - an injection molder in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin.
After graduating I worked for Hiawathaland Tool, a mold shop in Kasson, Minnesota, as a mold layout draftsman. From there I moved to the Twin Cities to work in the engineering department of Leisure Incorporated, a large design firm located in Chanhassen. After three years at Leisure, I was promoted to Engineering Manager and helped to grow the engineering department of that company. While at Leisure, I worked on hundreds of projects ranging from hair brushes to soap dispensers to CD players.
Finally, after 12 years at Leisure, I decided to break out on my own and form Evolution Product Development. Since May of 2003, Evolution has been designing products for a variety of clients across the United States. Some of my more well known clients include Satellite Industries, Spalding Sports, and King Technology.
Evolution performs the majority of its design work using a very popular CAD package called Pro-Engineer. I have over 18 years of experience with the software, designing literally hundreds of products. Evolution also owns a seat of Solidworks, another well know CAD package, in order to communicate easily across several CAD platforms. Evolution also has a well equipped shop on site for the production, assembly and testing of prototypes for their clients.
In my spare time I create welded sculptures and artistic furniture. Some of these pieces are on display in Evolution’s studio in Northeast Minneapolis. They can also be seen on our gallery website at www.gallery395.com.
